GAOL SENTENCE.
SHOPLIFTING CHARGES. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Jan. 28. Described by the police as accomplished shoplifters, Clara _ Bridget Prendergast, an old age pensioner, and Ethel Barron, aged .42, a married woman, were sentenced by the Magistrate (Mr H. W. Bundle) to-day to 14 days’ imprisonment and also admitto probation for two years for a series of thefts from city stores over a lengthy period. Prendergast said she and Barron had been stealing from shops for over three years, Chief-Detective Young adding that her home was used as a clearing depot for sale by Barron, who had formed a circle of regular customers.
