LONDON, Jan. 27. The engagement is announced of Alice, the daughter of the late Mr Francis Bowe. of Timaru, and Mrs Bowe, of Eastbourne, to Horn Donald Patrick Trevor Ogilvie-Grant, only son of Lord and Lady Strathspey. The Daily Telegraph’s Paris correspondent states that the Surete General states that it has unearthed a gang of twenty which manufactured and distributed false passports. Many arrests are expected. It is alleged that the murderer Weidmann obtained a passport from the gang. The Daily Telegraph’s Tokio correspondent states that Baron Ryoitsu Asada, speaking in the House of Peers, in the presence of a number of young women in the galleries, many'of whom were students in schools for brides, condemned birth-control and urged the trebling of the birthrate. He declared that birth-control in order to preserve bodily beauty must be patriotically discouraged. BARCELONA, Jan. 27. _ Captain Crone was aboard the ship Dover Abbey when ’planes raided the city.
