AUSTRALIAN TRAGEDY
SYDNEY, Jan. 28 Police express the opinion that A - fred Ernest Smith, who, with Ins wife, was killed by two terrific expl°sio j* to-day, which were caused by b° nU thrown through the window oi house, was in the act of hulling t bomb out of the window when it exploded. Some of his fingers and fragments of his hands were discovered m all parts of the bedroom and one finger in the garden. A scene of frightful confusion confronted the rescuers. Tne front of the House was wrecked. Snutli s badly hiiured body hay near the doorway and his wife’s was concealed under tne
debris on a collapsed bed, only the feet protruding. All the furniture was ruined and a strong odour of coixlite permeated the other rooms, which were not greatly damaged. The otnei occupants of the house were Smith s two daughters, a son and a girl friend of Miss Smith, their ages ranging from 11 to 23. All are uninjured, but are suffering from severe shock. Smith was recently closely identified with two strikes of slaughtermen at the Homebush abattoirs which interrupted the suppry of mutton to metropolitan consumers.
