EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD.” JANUARY 29, 1908.
The Borough Council had decided to draw the attention of the Kairanga County Council to the spread of pennyroyal along the boundary of the borough, particularly in the vicinity of Wood Street. Hon. R. McNab, Minister of Agriculture, had arrived in Feilding to inspect a site for a proposed dairy school. At Rugby, England had defeated Ireland by 9 points to 3. Unusual interest had been taken in the fixture. At the Feilding ram fair the prices for Romneys had ranged from Signs to Bigns. Mr M. Cohen had been elected the districts representative on the Wellington Harbour Board. The Palmerston North Beautifying Society, at a meeting over which Mr E. N. Barraud had presided, had decided to urge the Borough Council to have that portion of the Square near the Post Office ploughed and harrowed.
The number of trains passing through Palmerston North had increased from two a week in 1902 to six a day in 1908. .
