SELECTION OF JUNIOR TEAM.

The New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association announced to-day that Miss Margaret Beverley (Waikato) and Miss Joyce Doulhett (Wellington) had been selected for the New Zealand junior girls’ team of four to play in the New South Wales junior championships, commencing on February 26 at Sydney. The other two members will be selected after the New Zealand championships commencing at Auckland on Monday. The team under the management of Mr George Gore, will leave Auckland on February 15 and leave Sydney on March 12.
A. C. Stedman and two New Zealanders to be selected will leave New Zealand on February 26 for England to compete in iho Davis Cup for New Zealand.
AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS

AUCKLAND. Jan. 27. The outstanding feature of the play in the quarter-finals of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association’s men’s" singles championship was the match between A. D. Brown, title-holder, and J. T. Mayson. The contest lasted nearly three hours and went to five sets before Brown won 6 —3, B—6, 5—7, 4—6, 6—4. Brown was leading 5 —3 in the third set with match point when a decision called against him upset his play for some time. The match should actually have ended there. Mayson assumed the ascendancy and had a 3—l lead in the final set. when Brown staged a brilliant recovery that never left the issue in doubt.
Other results were : —Bedford (Wellington) heat J. Gunn (Auckland), 4 6—l, 6— l, ’7— o;3 N.' G., Sturt (Auckland) heat Allen,-'' 6—4. 6 —3, 57, 6—3; D. C. Coomhe (Wellington) heat J. Roach (Hamilton), 2—6, 6—l, 6 7—5.
