YACHT RACE

WAYFARER WITHDRAWS. I Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Jan. 27. [ The captain of the yacht Wayfarer, which is sheltering at Whangaroa, Mr K. Reid, states that he has definitely decided to withdraw from the race to Hobart and will leave Whangaroa tomorrow or on Saturday for Auckland. Mr Reid adds that, despite the terrific seas, comparatively little water was shipped. At the height of the storm a fault do ■> oped in the steering gear, but it was soon repaired. The rest of the gear stood up remarkably well, although a brand new mainsail began to split in places. No word has been heard in Auckland of the other contestant, the Aurora Star.
