NUFFIELD GIFT.
DOMINION GRADUATES. LONDON, .Tan. 5. There is a likelihood of the first appointments under Viscount Nuffield s scheme to assist Dominion graduates to studv at the Medical School at Oxford University being made this year. A special statement has been issued by the registrar of -the university, Mr Douglas Veale, in response to a reouest, that an indication be given for New Zealand readers as to when the scheme is likely to come into operation. “It is not at the moment ipossible to state when the scheme will he begun but it will be as soon as possible, states Mr Veale. “If al* the necessary arrangements call be completed, it is even hoped that the first appointments may be made this year.’’ Under the terms of Lord Nuffield s gift, £168,000 lias been made available to the trustees of the university to establish three demonstratorships to be held in turn in the departments of anatomy. bio-cliemistry, pathology, pharmacology and physiology, and three assistantsliips in the departments of medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, anaesthetics, orthopaedic surgery and therapeutics. The posts will be held by graduates selected ill rotation by the Universities of Australia, South Africa and New Zealand. • ••■■■ ■■
