NIAGARA ICE JAMB.
SWEEPS AWAY BRIDGE. MONTREAL, Jan. 2G. An ice jamb swept away tile Niagara Falls view bridge linking the United States and Cinada. The ire pack reached a height of /oft. The rteel arches in the centre of the bridge buckled and the structure was slowlv carried downstream. The ice enveloped the hydro-electric power plant on the Canadian side and threatened to sweep it out. The employees escaped shortly before the ice cut off the entrance. _ ' Sight-seeing boats were trapped m the ice which rose 20ft in three hours and is still rising. . Gales broke up the ice on Lake Erie The entire upper river is filled with gigantic chunks, which are thunecring over the Falls.
