HOTEL LOCK-OUT.
NO ROOM FOR ACTRESS. STOCKHOLM, Jan. 21. The actress, Greta Garbo, in a skiing outfit, tried in vain all day to book a room at an hotel here, and finally had to stay with friends. All the hotels were closed,'as a result of the general lock-out caused by the employees’ demand for a 20 per cent, wage increase. , .... Miss Garbo was accompanied on her quest by Count and Countess Wachtmeister. She tried the famous and luxurious Grand Hotel. She arrived there dressed in dark blue trousers, ski boots, woollen socks pulled over silk stockings, a heavy ulster waterproof coat, and a hi" black hat. She then tried and failed to buy a meal at the luxury restaurant Cecil, after which she and the Wachtmeisters did a round of the hotels, only to find them all closed. ' Visitors to Sweden have been forced to load their own luggage on to taxis, and find their own meals in city stores. It is estimated that 20.000 hotel workers have been forced out of work by the strike.
