PAHIATUA, Jan. 26. Mrs J. S. Dick, of Ngaturi,' is spending a holiday at Manawatu Heads. Mrs T. Biggar and Miss B. Biggar have returned irom a holiday spent at tho beach. Mr J. Salt, who is to tako up a solecharge position with the Auckland Education Board near Hokianga Harbour, North Auckland, is visiting Pahiatua. In a cricket match, Makuri beat Tiraumca by an innings and 32 runs. After having lost 7 wickets for 227 runs in their first innings Makuri declared (Butler 103, Absolom 75, Tyloo not out 20, Foatonlcy not out 20). Tiraumca knocked up 102 in their first strike (Curtis 29, Butler 4 for 45, Absolom 3 for 21). They followed on to put on 93 (Curtis 50, Hack, 2 for 11, Moore, 0 for 2). Mr F. E. Ward presided at the annual meeting of the Pahiatua Horse Sports Club, which was held at the residence of Mr T. Biggar. Due to the fall in gate money, owing to the wet day experienced last year, tho balance-sheot revealed a loss of £ls 8s Bd, the expenditure aggregating £B3 8s 2d and tho receipts £67 19s fid, of which entry money came to £33 10s and gate money £l3 15s 6d. Prize-money totalled £57 10s. Officers elected for tho ensuing year wore as follow:—Patron, Mr W. D. Taylor; president, Mr Ward; lion, secretary, Mr J. T. Paget; lion, auditor, Mr F. Mr Adams mentioned that it was his last mooting as secretary and, although ho beliovod in • conserving tho funds as much aa possiblo, ho recommondod tho club to make a donation to the A. and P. Association for lending tho hurdles every year. Tho chairman said it was a blow to tho association to lose Mr Adams, and he hoped that he would reconsider his decision, but the latter was unwilling to do so. It was suggested that a “hon coop” jump was needed at both the show and the norso sports, and it was resolved to do nate £3 to tho show association, for pro viding a “hen coop.” A decision was made to prohibit (horses that had boon in the hands of a professional trainer during t.hc three months prior to tho meeting. At a meeting of the executive of the Pahiatua A. and P. Association, over which Mr H. Cotter presided, the secretary reported that splendid entries were coming to hand for all sections of the show—the best for many years.
