SHEFFIELD SHIELD.
WON BY SOUTH WALES. DEFEAT OF VICTORIA. SYDNEY, Jan. 25. In the Sheffield Shield cricket match against New South Wales, Victoria in their first innings made 123 (Hassett 57, Pearson 15). Bowling for Mew South Wales, O'Brien took three for 44, O'Reilly three for 25, White three for 25. New South Wales in their second innings declared with four clown for 112 (Barnes 42. Chipperfield 34). At stumps Victoria in their second i.'mings had made 143 for the loss of five wickets (Ledward 24, Seivers 23, Person 51, including two sixers). For New South Wales, Mair took two for 47. New South Wales won on the first innings by 248 runs. ■ Although Victoria has yet to play South Australia, the result of this match cannot affect the destination of the shield, which is now won by New South Wales.
