ITALY’S CONQUEST

RECOGNITION BY POWERS. AMERICAN ACTION. RUMOUR DISCOUNTED. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received January 26, 10.45 a.m. LONDON, Jan. 25.

Whitehall discounts a report that President Roosevelt is willing to recognise Italy’s conquest of Abyssinia if Britain agrees and Italy will join in a general European settlement. It is stated in official quarters in London that there is no reason to believe that America’s attitude towards Abyssinia has altered since the Secretary of State (Mr Cordell Hull) pronounced on it. British policy similarly has not been revised.
