BURNS NIGHT.

LOCAL SCOTS CELEBRATE. Last evening in the Parish Hall, the members of* the Caledonian Society held a Burns Night in honour of the great Scottish poet, the anniversary of whose birth fell yesterday. There was an excellent attendance, and dancing was enjoyed to the strains of a professional orchestra, extras being supplied by Messrs G. Dick and A. Wright. Mr Wright was M.C. Just before supper, the haggis was piped in by Pipers G. Dick and Butler, playing “The Ode to the Haggis.” Mr W. McKay, of Apiti, spoke on the origin of the haggis, and recited part of the Ode.

Novelties were won by the following: —Lucky Gay Gordons, Miss B. Dungey and Mr S. Billett: Monte Carlo, Miss N. Reid adn Mr J. Henderson. The lucky door ticket was won by Miss M. Cranston and Mr R. Hooper.
