The engagement is announced of Irma, the daughter of Mr A. J. Hyders, of Wellington, New Zealand, to Flight-Lieutenant Anthony Powell, the 6on of Canon C. T. G. Powell and Mrs Pov;ell, of Ipswich.. The confiscation of Herr Streicher’s newspaper Stuermer was carried out half-heartedly throughout Germany owing to the authorities disagreeing with the action.
The foot and mouth disease outbreak is lessening. At present ten thousand farms aro affected, as compared with twenty thousand on January 1. Mr W. J ; Jordan, New Zealand High Commissioner, has left for Geneva to attend the meeting of the League Council. ’ The Daily .Mail’s Baarns correspondent says it is expected that Princess Juliana’s doctor will begin to issue bulletins by Tuesday, indicating that the birth of a child is imminent. TOKIO, Jan. 24. Japan is sending delegates to the Olympic Games Committee meeting at Cairo on March 21, when she will assure the world of her intention of staging one of the best Olympiads.
