Mrs J. Logan Stout and lier two daughters,- wno have been spending a holiday in Wellington, have returned to Palmerston North. Mrs A. Weston returned home at the week-end after spending a month’s holiday in New Plymouth.

Mr and Mrs W. G. Blade, of Argyle Avenue, Palmerston North, who have been spending a holiday on the East Coast, returned home last evening.

Mr and Mrs C. Hawkes, of Opunake, are visiting Palmerston North and Hawke’s Bay.

Mr and Mrs P. B. Hutchins, of Palmerston North, wlip have been enjoying an extensive tour of Europe, are returning home via America, and are expected to arrive in New Zealand on February 19. Attending the Inveresk training camp for Girl Guides in South Canterbury this week is Miss C. Picard, captain of the Shannon Girl Guide Company. One of the streets in the State housing settlement at Spreydon is to be named after the late Mrs E. It. McCombs, formerly M.P. for Lyttelton.

After an enjoyable cycling tour of Rotorua and the Lake district, Miss Thompson of Florence Avenue, Palmerston North, has returned home. She was accompanied by Miss Holland, of Nelson Miss Cave, of Masterton, and Miss Moir, of Wellington.

With a record of having lived in the reign of six Sovereigns, Mrs Grace Caird, mother of Mr John Caird. J.P., Menzies Ferry, Southland, died at Stonehaven, Scotland, on November 25, at the age of 106. She was known as Stonehaven’s “grand old woman,” and was believed to have been Britain’s second oldest woman. Three English Kings had congratulated her on being a centenarian. Her only surviving son, Mr John Caird, who is 75 years of age, came to New Zealand in 1880, and since then lias devoted himself to flax-milling and sawmilling. His appointment as a Justice of the Peace in 1896 warrants his being considered among the oldest Justices in Southland.
