BLAZE OF COLOUR
SYDNEY CELEBRATES; CROWDS THRONG CITY. CONGESTION IN STREETS. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received January 26, 8-5 a.m. SYDNEY, Jan. 25.
The city to-night was crowded with people of all ages from all parts of the Empire and other Empires, naval officers and ratings; indeed there was a surprising number of foreigners abroad evincing lively interest in the illuminations which were on an elaborate scale, making a vast blaze of colour.
Here and there were largo and small bejewelled crowns and coats-of-arms, millions of coloured lights, flags and pennants. The traffic congestion was very great, but will pipbably be much worse to-morrow night. Carpenters are still busily employed putting the final touches to the decorations and erecting barricades to windows and entrances of business houses.
The weather to-night was fine and mild with no immediate prospect of rain to spoil to-moi'row’s March to Nationhood.
