DAMAGE AT PARAPARAUMU.

TREES UPROOTED. PARAPARAUAIU, Jan. 24. A violent easterly gale swept Paraparaumu last night and this morning and levied heavy toll on trees, fruit crops and flowers. Pears and apples suffered very severely and in many gardens tomato plants, which were heavily laden with naif-ripe and green fruit, were battered and broken and in many instances both plants and stakes were levelled to the ground. Limbs were torn off gum and pine trees ,and a number of fruit and other small trees were uprooted. Alany local people maintain that today’s gale was more severe here than j.he one that did so much damage on this coast in February, 1936. The storm appeared to have blown itself out at 3 o’clock this afternoon.
