SUBSTANTIAL FINE.

■ CASE AT WANGANUI. Per Press Association. WANGANUI, Jan. 25. Cedric George Finn, a commercial traveller, of Palmerston North, was fined £2O by Mr J. H. Salmon, S.M., to-day for being in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor-car. Finn raised the novel defence that, as he was unwell, a friend drove his car to Wanganui from Palmerston North and back to the point where he was hailed by a traffic inspector. When defendant’s car stopped he suddenly discovered that his friend did not have a driver’s license and hurriedly exchanged seats and was at the wheel when the inspector walked back to his car.
