GERMAN RAILWAY DEFECTS. LONDON, Jan. 24. The Dailv Herald says that the German authorities are making a desperate effort to recall 10,000 current copies of Die Reichsbalin, the official organ of the State railways, disclosing how the railways, once famous for safety and .punctuality, _ have been compelled, owing to the drive for national self-sufficiency, to use condemned rolling stock, thus increasing by one-third the number of passengers killed bv derailment and collisions since 1936.
