LASTING PEACE PROPOSED
CALL BY BRITISH PREMIER INVITATION TO GREAT POWERS (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received January 24, 11 a.m. LONDON, Jan. 23. The Prime Minister (Mr Neville Chamberlain) proposes to call a conference of Italy, Germany, France, Belgium, and Britain in June to guarantee 20 years of peace on the following basis: —
Drastic reform of the League of Nations. No increase in armaments after the completion of the present programmes. A pact of non-aggression. The withdrawal of all clauses of the Versailles Treaty to which Germany objects except those concerning colonies.
Special committee to consider the German demand for colonies.
Finally, an economic truce on the lines of M. Van Zeeland’s report.
