VISITING ATHLETES’ DISPLAY. FEILDING CYCLIST IN FORM. Per Press Association. MASTERTON, Jam 22. Considerable interest attached to the appearance of members of the Trinidad Empire Games team at the Masterton amateur athletic sports meeting to-day. Noel Stanford, of Trinidad (scr.), won the 440 yards in 50 l-ssec. after a great tussle with the local runner J. Eastwood (syds), the two competitors breasting the tape almost together.

The Trinidad sprinter, J. R. N. Cumberbatch, who started from scratch, dead-heated with Hedge J6£yds) for second place in the 100 yards handicap, which was won by the Pahiatua competitor, R. Murch, off Byds, Cumberbatch, who, was feeling the effects of travelling, also started in the 220 yards, but was unplaced. John It. Ashmead (Trinidad), who was ill on the journey over the Rimutnkas, did not compete, but he gave exhibition high and long jumps. In the high jump lie cleared 6ft, a feat accomplished by only three New Zealanders. In the long jump he cleared 21ft, 4in.

The manager of the team, Me M. S. L. Joseph, who is a good all-round athlete, was a starter in the 100 yards and 120 yards events, but was unplaced.

A Fitch, the American coach at present under contract to the Wellington centre, made an attempt on the 130 yards world record. He was paced by a cyclist who, however, was of little assistance, and he covered the distance in 15 l-10sec—half a second short of tho record. R. P. Barrel-, of Dannevirke, won the mile event for the Hall Cnp in 4min 24sec. The Feilding cyclist, A. H. Allen, scooped the pool in the cycling events, winning the half-mile in 63sec, the mile in 2.14' 1-5; two miles in 4.38 1-5, and three miles in 7.50 4-5.
