CHINA CLIPPER RETURNS. ALAMEDA (California), Jan. 22. Pan-Ame’"can Airways announcecl that the China Clipper experienced mechanical trouble 700 miles at sea, and was returning to California. The clipper left San Francisco at 6.6 p.m. (Eastern Standard time) on Friday, and returned back at 2 a.m. The clipper carried eight passengers and six of a crew. , , Ci'ptain J. H. Tilton radioed that he intended to land' at Los Angeles on account of ground fog at. Alameda. Th engines were functioning perfectly, and the clipper was in no danger He expected to reach San Pedro at 7 a.m A later message from Los Angeles stated that the clipper landed without incident at 9.35 (E.S.T ■)•
