SIGNIFICANT APPOINTMENT. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Jan. 20. The Army list for January contains for the first time in the last 128 years a significant addition by the inclusion of the name of Maior-General Sir John Brown. who was appointed Deputy-Director-General of the Territorial Army, in - November with the local rank of major-general. The War Office announces that his promotion to the substantive rank of major-general, with the consequent creation of a new section in the Army list, is in pursuance of the policy that the highest ranks in the Army shall be open to all officers, regular and territorial alike. BRITISH WAR OFFICE. (British Official Wireless.) Received January 22, 10.45 a.m. RUGBY, Jan. 21. / The appointment of Major-General E. A. Beck as Director of Personal Services at the War Office was gazetted to-night; also the appointment of Colonel G. le Q. Martel as Deputy-Di-rector of Mechanisation at the War Office. , Colonel Martel is best known as the originator of the light tank.
