TROTTING NOTES.

A GOOD INVESTMENT. (By “Square-Gaiter.”) Tlie five-year-old gelding Pot Luck is proving an excellent investment for Mr I-I. Stafford, who purchased the son of .Tack Potts from J. D. Smith, of New Brighton, about two years ago for £350. Pot Luck then joined M. Holmes’s stable, and under his guidance the gelding has won £3132 in stakes. He has competed in 61 races for 20 wins, 12 seconds and three thirds. During this season Pot Luck has been first past the winning post on two occasions, has been three times second and once third. His earning 9 this term total £1415, and his performances in the Ashburton Trotting Cup and in the Canterbuhy Handicap at Addington on January 1 provided sufficient evidence to say that he will soon win again.

Purchase of Speedy Boy. Although it has been reported that Mr G.. J. Barton has completed the purchase of the Australian pacer Speedy Boy, nego-. tiations are still proceeding. Not a great deal has been seen of Speedy Boy since he went to Addington under J. Fraser, junr., and his work has not been of a serious nature, but he is an attractive mover. His purchase price is reported to be high, and if he changes ownership, as appears likely, it can be taken for granted that Fraser has formed a good opinion of his capabilities. Lameness Thrown Off.

Grand Mogul is again hoppled in his work and he /fives every indication of having thrown off the lameness that came against him before the New Zealand Cup meeting. He has built up well in condition and he has derived benefit from his spell. It is hoped he will bo in _ racing order in time to take his place in the inter-Dominion championships. Grand Mogul's Sister.

Smile Again, the winner of the Poolburn Trot on the second day of the Vincent Jockey Club’s meeting, is a sister to Grand Mogul. For more than 12 months she has been at Washdyke under the care of P. Gallagher, but was only recently sufficiently advanced to go to the races, as she received several setbacks. Now that she has reached winning' form, she should go on to better company.
