“WILL NOT BE EASY.”

AGREEMENT BETWEEN STATES. PRESIDENT’S STATEMENT. (British Official Wireless.) Received January 21, 12.10 p.m. RUGBY, Jan. 20. Mr de Valera, on his return to Ireland, made the following statement on the London talks : . . “Ea.ch side in the negotiations had put forward its views and indicated its general attitude on the chief outstanding matters in dispute. The approach of the two States to some or these questions is from a diametrically opposite point. It will not be easy to find agreement. Hofi'ever, we are exploring the whole field during the next few weeks. There will be a detailed examination of trade questions, and when the delegations meet again they should be in a position to discover quickly whether an agreement is or is not possible.”
