TAIKOREA
(From Our Own Correspondent.) TAIKOREA, Jan. 19. The holiday season is now over, and visitors to or from Taikorea are mostly at home again. Mr R. Hill who. accompanied by Mr Ward, of Wanganui, and Mr Locke, of Glen Oroua, spent a fortnight at Rotorua, returned home last week locking very fit! Miss B.' McSweoney and her sister, who were tho guests, of Mm Castle, have rolurned to Wellington. Mr and Mrs Johnston have left for an extended holiday m the South Island. Miss Lonta Mudford lias returned from a week spent in Wellingtn. The weather continues fine and hot, and the dry spell vas causing the milk supply to fall rapidly when, owing to the destruction of the Mangawhata factory, and the fact that several of the suppliers have transferred to Taikorea, the factory is working at capacity, four vats being full, and 40 cheeses being manufactured daily. The first and second assistants from Mangawhata provide the extra labour. On Saturday, in Tnikorca’s first match since December 18, the Carnarvon tennis team visited here. Owing to the holiday and haymaking tho visitors had difficulty in finding a < team and arrived with only five players. Taikorea were able to play one woman and two men to complete the team, hut tho latter played only tho men’s doubles. ‘Detailed scores arc:— Women’s singles: Miss Cornwall lost to Miss Duthie, 6—2; Mrs Mora beat Miss Gibbons, 6 —4; Mrs Castle won 6 —o; Miss Hehir lost to Miss Mudford, 6—3. Men’s singles: Burmeistcr lest to Hanson, 6 —3; Hobbs lost to Frccklington, 6—3. Women’s doubles: Miss Cornwall and Mrs Mora heat Miss Duthie and Miss Gibbons, 6- —1; Mrs Castle and Miss Hehir heat Miss Hanson and Miss Mudford, 6—4. .Men’s doubles; Burmeistcr. and Hobbs lost to Hanson and Frccklington, 6—4; Bennett and Freeman lost to 'Algar and Hehir, 6—5: Mixed doubles: Bitrmcister and Miss Cornwall lost to Hanson and Miss Duthie, 6—4; Hobbs and Mrs Mora lost to Frccklington and Aliss Gibbons, 6y-2. Carnarvon, 8 sets and 57 games; Taikorea, 4 sets and 50 games. A pleasant afternoon’s tennis was brought to a sad conclusion when. Just before leaving for home, the thrcc-ycar-old daughter of Air and Airs Alma, fell backward off a seat and broke her arm between tho wrist and elbow. She - made, so little outcry that it was a few minutes before it was realised that her arm was badly hurt; no time was lost then in taking her to a doctor, where the extent of the injury was! discovered.
