JAPANESE IN CANADA.
CONCERN OVER INFLUX. Received January 20, 2 p.m. VANCOUVER, Jan. 19. Charging that Japanese had been smuggled into British Columbia, Captain M. Macintosh, a member of the Legislature, in demanding an immediate Dominion census or Japanese peaceful penetration, alleged that they were capturing the control of the fishing industry. There was only one white on Mayne Island, where there were formerly no Japanese. The gentlemen’s agreement permitting an annual entry of 150 was being flagrantly violated, he declared.
