HUNTERVILLE SALE. Messrs Abraham and Williams, ■ Ltd., report on the Hunterville Sale as under: —A good yearing of ap- , proxijnately 4500 sheep came to hand, the bulk of the offering being composed of lambs of just medium quality in the main, very odd lots of good crop lambs being submitted. The demand throughout was slow, with numerous passings at auction; nevertheless. a fair clearance was effected by private treaty at slightly reduced rates on those ruling at last week’s sales. We offered a special entry of age marked 5-year ewes on account of . Mr A. Sutherland, Mangahoe, the line of 550 selling at 22s 7d. Had it not been for the prevailing dry weather these ewes would have made considerably more, likely buyers not being interested owing to the fact of still having a fair number of their own lambs along with the old ewes still to fatten off. Quotations: 5-year age marked ewes, 22s 7d; small 4-th. ewes, 245; medium woolly b.f. lambs, 13s, 13s 9d 14s 5d to 15s 6d; good woolly b.f. lambs, 15s. 15s 3d, 15s 6d, 16s, 16s 6d; shorn b.f. lambs, very meaty, 15s to 16s 6dj small shorn wether lambs, ss, 5s 6d, 5s lOd to 7s 6d; small ewe lambs, 7s 6d, 10s, 11s, 12s to 14s. BURNSIDE SALE. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, Jan. 19. There was a general easing in the cattle and sheep sections at the Burpside stock sale to-day. The entry of fat cattle numbered 393, an increase of 70 over the previous sale. Though the quality was fully up to standard, the demand was easier and the market opened to a general drop of 20s a head. Extra prime heavy bullocks made to £l9 2s 6d; prime, £ls 7s 6d to £l7 7s 6d; medium and light, £9 2s 6d to £ll 7s 6d; extra prime cows and heifers, to £l3 2s 6d; prime, £8 2s 6d to £lO 2s 6d; medium, £7 2s 6d to £8; light, down to £4 7s 6d. Extra prime bullocks were worth on the average £1 16s a 1001 b to butchers, prime £1 14s, prime cows and heifers £1 156, and poorer quality £1 ss. Though there was also an easing in the value of store cattle, it was not so marked. Three and four-year steers were worth from £8 15s to £9 9s ; two-year steers, £5 15s to £6 12s 6d; forward cows and heifers, from £4 to £5 2s 6d. A large yarding of 2078 fat sheep was submitted, but the hot weather affected butchers’ requirements, and values were down from the start by 4s to 5s a head. Prime heavy wethers brought to £1 14s; prime, £1 9s 6d to £1 11s; medium* £1 4s to £1 6s; light, down to 19s; prime heavy ewes, to £1 ss; prime, £1 Is 3d to £1 3s; medium, 17s to 19s 3d; light, down to 11s. More than 1300 fat lambs were forward. Extra prime heavy sorts brought to £1 13s; prime, £1 4s 3d to £1 6s 6d; medium. £1 Is to £1 3s 6d: light and unfinished, down to 18s 6d. WESTFIELD QUOTATIONS. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Jan. 19. Heavy supplies of beef after the shortage of a week ago resulted in an easier tendency in the Westfield market to-day. Quotations remaiued unchanged, although most sales revealed lower worth than at recent auctions. Extra choice ox beef sold at 40s a 1001 b, choice a.nd prime 34s to 395, unfinished 28s to 365; extra choice cow and heifer beef 30s to 376, unfinished 20s to 335; extra heavy prime steers made £l4 to £ls 10s, heavy £l3 5s to £l3 15s, medium £l2 to £l3, light £lO 10s to £ll 17s 6d, unfinished £7 10s to £lO 7s 6d; extra heavy prime cows and heifers £9 to £ll, heavy £7 10s to £8 17s 6d, medium £6 to £7 17s 6d, light £5 10s to £6 15s, unfinished £3 to £5 7s 6d. Firm values were general over the sheep section, with the exception of wethers, which receded about Is a head. Quality was consistently satisfactory in a large entry. Extra heavy prime wethers brought 27s 9d to 30s, heavy 26s 3d to 27s 6d. medium 25s to 265, light 22s 6d to 24s 9d, unfinished 20s to 225; extra heavy maiden ewes 21s to 25s 3d, heavy 17s 9d to 19s 6d, medium 16s to 17s 6d, light 14s 6d to 16s 3d, unfinished 5s to 15s. Many choice lambs came forward and sold readily at late quotations, prime grades making 20s to 26s 6d, smaller and unfinished 10s 6d to 19s. The calf yarding was over-supplied. The early demand was slack and values depreciated ias the sale progressed. In some-oases prices were more than 7s a head easier. Runners ranged from £3 to £6 17s; heavy vealers £4 to £5, medium £3 8s to £3 18s, light £2 10s to £3 Bs, smaller £1 10s to £2 Bs, small and unfinished 18s to £1 9s, rough 14s to 235, bobby 5s to 14s. A full entry of pigs met with a steady demand, although there was an easing tendency in all hut primest grades. Choppers made £2 to £4 9s; heavy baconers £3 16s to £4 Is, medium £3 8s to £3 12s, light £3 2s to £3 6s;' heavy porkers £2 15s to £3, medium £2 8s to £2 12s, light £2 2s to £2 7s, smaller and unfinished, £1 12s to £2; stores, £1 2s to £1 9s, slips, 12s to 21s; weaners, Bs' to 16s. Baconers averaged 6d a lb, porkers 6id.
