Masterton bad shown the way to other towns in the provision of swimming baths, splendid baths having been opened in the AYairarapa town with much ceremony. General Bramwell Booth had. claimed that his. anti-suicide bureau had saved 1500 people frod destruction during 1907. Over 54 per cent, of them had pleaded poverty. Mark Hambourg, who had been regarded as a coming pianist, had arrived for a tour of New Zealand. There had been a shortage of blacksmiths in Palmerston North. All the smiths’ shops had been working at top pressure. Mr Lethbridge, M.P.. bad offered tbe Government 50 acres of land or £IOOO if it would erect a dairy school in the Feilding district.
