WOMEN CRITICISED.
PLEASURE AS A GOD. LONDON, Jan. 14. “The modern young woman making pleasure her god does her country a grave disservice,” said Mr J. A. F. Nola.n, at the University Conservatives’ Conference at Oxford. “You could hardly expect the average marriageable young man to take a great interest in these overpawed remnants of the bargain basement,’-’ lie said. “If tlie Englishwomen who couldn’t expect husbands were marched past in single file it would take four days and nights.” Miss Mollie Hamblett opposed the German plan of boycotting bachelors, as martyrised bachelors would become heroes. The conference approved, b- 20 votes to 8, of a resolution welcoming AngloGerman rapprochement, provided it did not sacrifice interests of the Empire for small European countries. Mr H. Soref (Oxford) declared that the second part of the resolution invalidated the first. They had to give Gerrnany something if they wished for a rapprochement.
