LICENSING LAW.

INVERCARGILL, Jan. 19. In the Magistrate’s Court to-day, Andrew Allen McKenzie pleaded guilty to two charges of selling liquor in a no-license area. , Senior-Sergeant W. Kelly explained that on the evening of November 29 a. constable visited defendant’s residence in Ettrick Street and paid 7s for four bottles of beer. Again on December 1 a constable paid 3s 6d for two bottles. The premises were raided and 115 bottles of beer were seized. Receipts found showed that during November accused had obtained over 400 bottles of beer and had paid £36 for liquor, pointing to fairly extensive business. In 1936 and .1937 he had been fined £lO for keeping liquor for sale. Defendant was convicted on each charge and the fixing of the penalty was adjourned for a fortnight to see what action defendant intended taking to secure employment. 1
