Cr A. W. Bissett presided at u meeting of tho Palliatua County Council, field yesterday, when .Mr N. 0. Sorensen wrote stating that the creek level on liis property was the same as when lie purchased the place some years ago and that with the constant wear of traffic and floods it was deeper than it was some years ago and would deepen unless something was done to prevent it.—The overseer was instructed to proceed with the clearing work. Hon. R. Semple intimated that the council’s request for the rate refund account for the year 1931-32, to he transferred to the gen eral account, would be granted. The district engineer of the Public "Works Department, Napier, intimated that the road surface complaint about the Ballance-Gorge Road would he the subject of a conference between the engineer at Dannevirke and the Pahiatua County. The Public Work's Department confirmed the appointment of Mr J. Hullinan as clerk of works for Hull’s bridge at £6 per week, plus 15s travelling expenses. The Treasury , advised that the council’s application for a loan of £BOOO for surfacing work, two culverts and a bridge would be dealt with in due course. The Post and Telegraph Department advised that they had received word from the Department of Labour that the men engaged by the council under Scheme 13 must ho paid at the rate stipulated in- 4 tho award, to which the council is a party. The council’s request that the subsidy under Scheme 13 special be increased to meet the increase in the award rate had been carefully considered, and it liad been regretted that no increase in subsidy be made in the meantime. Mr A. S, Clulow was the spokesman of a doptrtalion of eight settlors of the llincmoii district who waited on the council with the object of outlining the clangorous slate of the Tiraumea Valley Road. Mr Clulow stated that within the past ton years nine persons had boon injured through ear accidents on the road, one man losing his life. Five miles of the road wore very narrow and a danger for modern traffic in places. For a strange person there was a danger ot falling 100 feet into a gully. After a lengthy discussion it was left to the overseer to put on labour as soon as possible to cut, back the corners as suggested by the sottlors, and for a slip to bo attended to as soon us finances were available.

At a meeting of the executive of tho Pahiatua A. and P. Association yesterday afternoon Mr H. Cotter presided. Judges for all sections were appointed. Mr C. H. Wilton mentioned that in tho schedule it was stipulated in the sheep soetion that “if only one entry half the prize money bo awarded.” The secretary replied that tho stipulation was to apply to all sections of the show. He would see that it was not omitted from the other sections when tho catalogue canto to bo printed. It was pointed out that in class 82, “three fat wethers, longwool or longwool crosses, not to exceed 701bs, suitable for freezing, any ago” that ’’any age” should bo eliminated and “four-tooth or over” substituted. The matter of permanent olectric power on the ground was left in the hands of the president and secretary. It was reported by the secretary that an extraordinary demand had set in for side-show space.

Mr J. D, Wilson was in the chair at a meeting of the Carnival Park Domain Board, when the action of Dr Dawson and the secretary was confirmed in regard to the carting of the limestone for the paths. Tho secretary reported that u contractor was prepared to do the work in connection with the drain loading to the artificial lake provided tho board found the c-ement (three bags).—Agreed to. A quantity of goods, mostly men’s clothing, were unlawfully removed from the residence of Mr and Mrs W. D. G. Crewe, while they were on holiday.
