FROM NOTTS COMMITTEE. Received January 20, 11.50 a.m. LONDON, Jan. 19. Dir A. W. Carr has resigned from the Notts County Cricket Committee owing to lack of time.
Carr, who is 43 years of age, started cricket with the Notts County eleven in 1911. Immediately after the war lie succeeded A. O. Jones as captain of the county team, and made a reputation as a forcing batsman and resourceful leader. He toured with an English team in South Africa in the 1922-23 season, and in 1926 captained England in four of the Tests against Australia in England, and again captained England in two of the Tests against South Africa in 1929. Carr as Larwood’s champion in the bodylinu bowling argument, got rather out of step witih some of his committee, and his position as captain of a side containing Larwood and Voce, the leg theory bowling exponents, became extremely difficult at times.
