MAN’S CONFESSION.

KIDNAPPING AND MURDERING,

LOS ANGELES, Jan. IS

Arrested at the Sa'nta Anita race track to-day Peter Anders, aged 30. confessed to kidnapping and murdering Charles Ross on October 17 last. Anders was captured through using ransom bills to lay bets. Anders also confessed that he killed his partner in the kidnapping, Atwood Gray, and hid the bodies. G-men have recovered 14.402 dollars out of the 50,000 dollars ransom. It is believed the remainder* was spent in racetrack betting and high ingThe trail of the ransom money was twice traced across the Continent before the arrest was made. Anders also confessed to 20 bank robberies.

A Chicago message on October 19 stated : G-men revealed that a l'cnsom of 50,000 dollars was paid in vain in an effort to obtain the return of. Charles Ross, aged 72 a retired publisher of greeting cards, wlio was kidnapped on September 25. Ihe opinion is expressed that Ross, who was a sufferer from heart disease, is dead. An active search has started. Ahe kidnappers passed a number of ransom bills.
