ASHHURST
(From Our Own Correspondent.) ASHHURST, Jan. 17. There was a small muster on the local rifle range on Saturday, a competition shoot being fired over the 500 and 600yds ranges and a practice shoot over the 300 yds. Conditions were very difficult at 300 yds, a bright light making a haze, and sighting conditions were of tho worst. Detailed scores are as followß. Wakefield, 45—47—48—140; R. A. Jones,, 43—49—46 138; M. Hausmann, 43 —48 —44—135; S. J. Brookie, 41 —48 —45 —134; -H. Russell, 39 — 40 —43—122. 300 and 500yds only: J. Hensen, 42—48 —90; C. Turner, 40—48 —88; C. Mayhew, 38—38 —76. Mr and Mrs E. Hayward of Feilding Road, have received advice that their son, Maurice Hayward, working on the construction of the Whakatane paper mill, had tho misfortune to suffer a fairly severe accident. Mr Hayward lost his balance while sheeting part of tho roof, and fell 30ft on to a concrete floor, suffering a fracture of the thigh. Ho was convoyed to the Whakatane Hospital, where he is doing very well.
