BLINDED MAN.
CRAWLED ALONG FENCE. PERTH, Jan. 5. Tom Bennett, who is stationed at an out-camp about 45 miles from Noreena Downs station, 180 miles south-east of Port. Hedland by air, was temporarily blinded when a tin of carbide from which he was filling his lamp exploded in his face on Saturday night. Bennett, attempted to ring the homestead, but the ’phone was faulty. Rather than remain in his camp until the homestead rang him, Bennett, blinded as he was, groped his way along nine miles of fencing for eight hours, suffering excruciating pain, until he readied a woolshed, where lie was able to notify the . station manager by ’phone of his predicament. The manager immediately set out by motor car and brought Bennett to the homestead, where he was treated by the “flying doctor,” Dr. Lawson. Bennett’s sight has now been restored, and he is progressing favourably.
