LINK WITH DOMINION
DEATH OF MR J. F. DIXON. SERVICE IN MOUNTER RIFLES. LONDON, Doe. 21. The death occurred recently atNarboroUgh, Leicestershire, of Dr. Joseph Francis Dixon, who on several occasions had been associated with New Zealand. Born in Dublin in 1871, he spent somo years fanning in New Zealand before returning to Trinity College, where he qualified in medicine in 1899. At the outbreak of the South African War he volunteered as a civil surgeon. He travelled to New Zealand during the war in charge of a troopship of sick and wounded. While there he obtained a commission in the New Zealand Mounted Rifles and went again to South Africa. On demobilisation he planned to
take up a general practice in the Dominion. For family reasons he had to give up the idea and returned to England, where he achieved prominence as a psychiatrist. From the time he was appointed medical superintendent of the Mental Hospital at Humberstone, the institute became notable for many reforms and advances in the treatment of patients. Dr. Dixon retired 18 months ago. He is survived by his wife.
