Grainger presided at a meeting of the Woodville County Council, when the name of a representative for the Howard Estate Advisory Board was inquired by the secretary of the board.—Mr A. Robottom, of Otane, was submitted. Suggested improvements to Saddle Road which was under the control of the council were suggested by the Public Works Department. “As your council has not contributed at all to the work that has already been carried out it is felt that it stiould give some assistance towards the improvement of the old section of road which, in addition to being of benefit to drovers and the general public at times, will also be of benefit to certain ratepayers in the county,” stated the letter. It was suggested that several small deviations should be made to improve the alignment on certain sections. It was resolved tliat the council inform the department that it could not accede to the request. The Hawke’s Bay Automobile Association advised that complaints from the district under the control of the council had been received in regard to stock grazing at the sides of the roads in the Kumeroa district, particularly at night time. It was decided to inform the association that the council was doing what it could to combat the nuisance.
