RANGITIKEI.
MARTON, Jan. 18,
Mr and Mr 6J. D. Gorrie, who have been on a six months’ tour of South Africa, left at the end of December on their return journey to New Zealand. The suggestion that the Wellington Cricket Association should send its second eleven on a tour of the minor associations was made by the chairman (Mr J. H. Phillipps) at a meeting of the management committee. It was the duty of the major associations, the chairman contended, to give the minor associations as many chnjices of engaging in first-class cricket as. possible. Members agreed with this view, and it was agreed to write to the Rangitikei and Hawke’s Bay Associations asking whether they would be agreeable to play matches against a Wellington second eleven at Marton and Napier. It was suggested that the team should leave Wellington on February 17, and play Rangitikei on February 18 and 19, and Hawke’s Bay on February 21 and 22.
