JAPAN’S FUTURE.

NATION MUST EXPAND. CONTEMPLATED ATTACK. LONDON, Jan. 17. Admiral Ryozo Nakamura, the socalled brains of the Japanese Navy, and Admiral Suetsugu’s right-hand man, does not foresee Japanese-British complications in the event of Japan attacking Canton, which is farther from Hong Kong than was the Japanese scene of action at Shanghai from the International Settlement, says the Toko correspondent of the Daily Mail. “If there is trouble it w'ill be of British seeking,” said Admiral Nakamura. “We must show what we are made of. so that Western nations will realise that we must expand. Britain still leads the world in closing doors against us. There is no permanent value in controlling vast areas of China. We should spread our strength overseas and ensure success with undeveloped markets and materials.’
