BANKING BUSINESS.
EXPANSION IN AUSTRALIA. Received January 18. 12.25 p.m. MELBOURNE, Jan. 18. The returns of the ten trading banks operating in Australia show that, in the last quarter of last year, both deposits and' advances rose to new high levels. Over the twelve months deposits rose by £22,760.000 to £314.088,000 and advances rose by £6,691,000 to £274,320,000.
