Owing to the obstructions caused hv the Manawatu Gorge fire the Gorge Road Imd Teen cl.-ed for traffic for •i indefinite period. One bridge had been burnt down. The Wanganui and Palmerston North Rifles had held' a field day at Turakina. At the Foxtnn races the run had been won by Signor, with Waipaku second. .Twelve bookmakers had operated on the course, while the totalizator had handled £8258.
