MAN BADLY HURT. Per Press Association. ROTORUA, Jan. 17. Terrible injuries from which he is not expected to recover were received by a man believed to be Hugh Southern Hayes, of Kai livi. near Wanganui, aged about 27, when the car in which he was driving to Whakatane left the road and dropped over a 300 ft. ravine shortly after 10 o’clock last night. Mr Hayes’s companion, Mr Joe Visooe, who had travelled in the car from Wanganui, was thrown out halfway down the drop. He escaped fairly lightly after being caught up in a tree trunk. The accident occurred on one of the steepest parts of the Rotoma Hill"A passing motorist summoned assistance! and it took over an hour to bring Mr Hayes back to the road. It is believed that Mr Hayes’s injuries include a fractured skull and internal injuries. His condition is very dangerous. Mr Viscoe has a fractured leg, but his condition is not serious.
