EPSOM VILLAGE

ODD MISCONCEPTION. AUCKLAND A BOROUGH. LONDON, Jan. 22. A peculiar conception of the size of Auckland and its suburbs appears to be held in parts of England. On the incorporation of the Borough of Epsom and Ewell, Surrey, recently, a letter was received from the Mayor of Auckland. Sir Ernest Davis, conveying congratulations from Epsom, Auckland, to the new borough. Referring to this letter at a public function a few days ago, the Mayor of Epsom and Ewell, Alderman J. S. Underhill, is reported to have said that the Mayor of Auckland, New Zealand, had written congratulating Epsom on having become a borough. “Apparently out there they have a village called Epsom, which lias just become part of the Borough of Auckland,” said Mr Underhill.
