HOROWHENUA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, Jan. 17.

Mr and Mrs G. Evans who have been on holiday in Christchurch, have returned. Mr and Mrs Sturrnan, who have been on holiday in Qtaki, have returned to Invercargill. Mr and Mrs Adams have returned after a holiday in Christchurch. Mr and Mrs G. H. Harper, and Misses Dola and Monica Harper, who have been on a motor tour of the north, have returned. Mr and Mrs F. Vcalo, Cambridge, are staying with Mrs St. George. Mr and Mrs J. Bullard, Whakatane, aro staying with Mr and Mrs Mansell. A gift evening was tendered Mrs Lloyd and Miss Rita Sharp at the Anglican Hall on Saturday night. The young couple were the recipients of many useful presents. Mr H. H, Olliver, of Waikanae, has returned home after a holiday in Christchurch. Mrs Olliver will journey by ’plane at the week-end to visit her daughter at Gisborne. The friends of Mr A. E. Twist will be pleased to learn that his condition lias greatly improved. At the euchre party at Raukawa on Friday • night the winners wore Mrs W. Cootcs and Mr August Bishop (first) and Mr W. Cootcs and Miss Ruta Royal (second). A large grub, evidently of the caterpillar species, was found in the vicinity of the Otaki tennis courts on Saturday. It was nearly four inches long, with the body of a snake, and armed with a long hard spike on the rear of its body.
