CANTERBURY MEETING. JOCKEYS INJURED. SYDNEY. Jan. 15. The Canterbury meeting was held on Saturday. Following is the result of the NURSERY HANDICAP. Second Division. BELLE MODELLE. 7.6 (W. Cook) ... 1 SOME VIXEN, 8.10 (O’Sullivan) ... 2 SIR DIGNUS, 7.4 (Harvey) 3 Ten started. A head; two lengths. Time, 1.3. Shipley ran third to Royal Ensign and Bofield in the first division. Egmont ran fourth to Panaster, Peg’s Pot and i Alan Verde in the Canterbury Handicap. Her Excellency was unplaced in the third division of the Maiden Welter. Sturdoo was unplaced in the Flying Welter. In the first division of the Maiden Welter Venturesome was killed outright, Achray broke a foreleg and had to he destroyed, and a third horse fell uninjured in a sensational smash. The jockeys, G. McDonald and M. Zensky. were injured, and sent to hospital. CAMPSIE HANDICAP. SAILMAKER. 8.8 (Weiss) ... 1 VICEROY, 8.6 (Shean) 2 IMPROVEMENT, 8.13 (Bartlc) ... 3 Eight started. A head; three-quarters of a length. Three horses fell in this race. Keith Cook, one of the leading jockeys, was sent to hospital in a critical condition and two others, including D. Munro, were slightly injured. CAULFIELD RACES. MELBOURNE, Jan. 15. Tho Caulfield races wore held on Saturday. Results:— ANNIVERSARY HANDICAP. POOLEY BRIDGE, 7.6 (Morris) ... 1 DICTATOR, 7.8 (Voitre) 2 BLACK -MAC, 9.5 (Wilson) 3 Nine started, including The Riff. Half a length; a neck Epigram was unplaced in the Rowcna Welter. TOORONGA HANDICAP. OTHELLO, 7.8 (Badger) ...l 1 EASTERN MAID. 7.3 (Morris) ... 2 GAItRIO, 8.10 (Voitre) 3 Fourteen started, including Prince Quex. Half a head; one and a half lengths. Time, 1.123.
