for’ soviet goods. ALLEGATIONS AGAINST ITALY. VESSELS DETAINED. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) Received January 17, 9.30 a.m. MOSCOW, Jin. 16. A statement announces that last year some Italian institutions and firms did not pay the Soviet organisations for goods delivered to Italy, especially oil, desjrite the legal machinery for this purpose. Thus the Italian Naval Ministry, despite the repeaieu Uemands, has not paid the Naptha Syndicate. Similarly, one of the largest Italian firms has not paid its accounts. Moreover, Soviet vessels have been detained without cause in Italian ports, violating the Russian-Italian agreement regarding State property. Consequently, the Soviet has suspended all direct payments to Italian firms’ and has ordered the money due to be deposited in a special account in the Soviet State Bank. ITALIAN DENIAL. AMOUNT NOT REVEALED. Received January 17, 9.30 a.m. ROME, Jan. 16. The Press Ministry denies that Italy has defaulted to Russia. Sqioet circles do not reveal the amount owing.
