MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS
LABOUR PREPARES. A joint meeting of the Labour candidates for municipal honours and the Labour representation committee was held yesterday, Mr P. T. Robinson presiding, to endorse the policy for the forthcoming municipal election. Labour’s Municipal policy, says a report supplied to the “Standard,” is in effect its national, social and economic ideals adapted to meet local requirements. “The issue is as clear locally as it is nationally, the report adds. “Labour stands for the efficient control of the affairs of the city, for the careful scrutiny of the city’s finance, for the protection, conservation and development of city reserves, an assured adequate water supply, and an enterprising policy in connection with the electricity department with a view to extending maximum benefits to,consumers. If given the opportunity, Labour will conduct a careful and thorough review of the various city departments with the object of eliminating useless expenditure and obtaining greater co-opera-tion. Labour believes that a wise expending and husbanding of the city’s resources is the best economy. While unemployment is essentially a national question, a Labour City Council will apply Labour’s national policy of standard wages and conditions to the full extent. Labour’s general administrative policy of efficiency and capable management, together with award wages and conditions, will apply to every department of the City Council. ’
