PLAN FOR AIR ROUTE. MAY BE ABANDONED. Received August 21, 10.20 a.m. HONOLULU, Aug. 20. The Bureau of Air Commerce is reported to have abandoned the plan for a direct air route to New Zealand from Hawaii. They consider that the loss of M?s Earhart Putnam lias demonstrated that Howland and Jarvis Islands are not practical air bases.
