INCREASE IN DAIRY ADVANCES. • STERLING! EXCHANGE HIGHER. The weekly statement of assets and liabilities of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand as at the close of business on Monday, August 16, is a.s follows: LIABILITIES.
Proportion of reserve (No. 7 less No 5) to notes and other demand liabilities, 78.468 per cent., as compared with 79.053 per cent, on August 9. i Sterling exchange shows an increase of £245,971 and now totals £20,399,810. Gold snows no change at £2,801,791. Subsidiary coin at £108,680 shows a reduction of £1653.
Advances to the State dairy industry account show an increase of £293.802, the total amount now being £4,577,817. Advances to the State for other purposes are unchanged at £300,000. Investments stand at £2,906,450, an unchanged amount. Other assets total £6b,-
640, a decrease of £8414. The note issue has increased by £31,975, the total being £12,633,268. Demand liabilities to the State at £6,475,036 show a decrease of £138,046. The trading banks’ reserve balances amount to £9,608,818, an increase ol £447.123. Other demand liabilities at £851,098 are up by £189,051. Other liabilities total £92,967, a decrease of £428. The statement, balances at £31,161,188, an increase of £529.705.
